Terms of Use
The short version. Before is a scripture and Screen Time habit app from Before Bible LLC. Use it lawfully, respect other people in Groups, and know that paid features are billed through Apple. Details are below.
Agreement
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Before mobile application for iOS (the “App”), the website at beforebible.app (the “Site”), and related services (together, the “Services”) operated by Before Bible LLC (“Before,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, accessing, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information. It is part of how we operate the Services; please read it as well.
The Services
Before helps you build a daily scripture habit and, if you choose, limit distracting apps using Apple’s Screen Time and related system frameworks. Features may include daily verses, listening, memorization, prayer timers, Focus / Earn to Scroll, Bible reading plans, and optional Premium Groups. We may change, add, or remove features over time.
Eligibility
You must be able to form a binding contract to use the Services. The App is not directed at children under 13. If you use Groups or other features that involve a username or competition, you are responsible for what you share with other members of your private groups.
Accounts and Sign in with Apple
Some features (such as Groups) require Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to your Apple ID secure. You may delete your Before account data from within the App where that option is provided.
Subscriptions and payments
Before may offer free features and paid Premium subscriptions (for example weekly, monthly, or yearly plans, and free trials when available). Payment is charged to your Apple ID through the App Store. Subscription terms shown at checkout in the App Store control pricing, trial length, renewal, and cancellation.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period in your Apple ID subscription settings.
- Manage or cancel in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device (or the equivalent App Store subscription management screen).
- Refunds, if any, are handled by Apple under Apple’s policies.
Licensed scripture text and audio may be subject to additional license terms from the Bible translation providers we use; those licenses do not grant you rights to redistribute the full text outside normal personal use of the App.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Services for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to bypass Screen Time, App Lock, or other restrictions in a way that violates Apple’s rules or harms others
- Abuse, harass, or spam other users in Groups or via invite links
- Scrape, reverse engineer, or overload our servers or APIs except as allowed by law
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation when using Groups
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or abused the Services.
Intellectual property
The Before name, branding, App, and Site design are owned by Before Bible LLC or its licensors. Scripture translations remain the property of their respective rights holders. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms and the App Store terms.
Third-party services
The Services rely on Apple (App Store, Sign in with Apple, Screen Time / Family Controls, CloudKit when enabled), and may use providers such as Supabase (Groups), OpenAI (optional AI voice), RevenueCat / StoreKit (purchases), PostHog (product analytics), and hosting on Vercel. Their terms and privacy policies apply to their services.
Disclaimers
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. Before is a habit and focus tool, not medical, mental-health, or pastoral counseling. Screen Time controls depend on Apple’s platforms and your device settings; we cannot guarantee they will work in every configuration.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BEFORE BIBLE LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICES IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (US $50). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the fullest extent allowed.
Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify Before Bible LLC against claims arising from your misuse of the Services or your violation of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our willful misconduct.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the revised Terms. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you (for example in the App or on the Site).
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, excluding conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer protections in your place of residence require otherwise. Courts in Texas will have jurisdiction, subject to those mandatory protections.
